Our Story

The Amicus ITS story started back in 1988 when four leading IT industry professionals came together to form an organisation called Second Generation Computer Systems Ltd (2GL). 2GL’s specialism was in providing PC based accounting solutions on IBM XT and AT personal computers. From these humble beginnings 2GL grew through organic growth to become one of the largest independent IT systems integrators on the South Coast.

By 2000, 2GL employed more than 200 people with revenues in excess of £35 million pounds. It was felt by the management at this time, that a broader services capability needed to be offered and so in April 2000, 2GL acquired a Citrix and Software Development specialist based in Bristol called Counterpoint Computing. Following the Counterpoint acquisition, 2GL merged with a leading business process consultancy firm, World Class International, in the October of the same year.

Together, the new organisation, now called WCI, could offer their customers complete solutions – from phase 1 or Prince2 led consulting projects, right through to the design, implementation and management of complex, highly robust Microsoft Infrastructures, in line with business processes.
 
Two years into the new entity, WCI Technology was born as a consequence of an MBO by the then Sales and Commercial Directors. It is this organisation that three years later became Amicus Technology Limited. The other sections of the WCI organisation had also gone through a similar re-branding exercise.

The IT services division of WCI, i.e. the business unit which ran the highly commended ITIL aligned NHSD managed service, has been incorporated in a joint venture with a company called Harmoni CPO. Harmoni CPO has a history of Clinical Process Outsourcing and is at the forefront of the DOH’s "GP out of hours" service. This business unit was called Harmoni ITS (IT Services). WCI Consulting Ltd, the division remaining, continues to focus on providing business consultancy services within Supply chain and pharmaceutical markets.

In 2007, the shareholders felt that by joining Harmoni ITS and Amicus Technology together, there would be significant benefits to our clients by increasing and enhancing the range of service to them, Amicus ITS was formed. The two companies have agreed to officially merge in March 2008. The core business functions are True 24x7 IT Business Solutions, Bespoke Business Technology Solutions, Technology Consultancy Services, Green IT Solutions, Infrastructure Design & Services. The new arrangement brings together a management team with over 100 years of experience within the IT industry.
